We all have low moments when we feel down or depressed. It’s a completely natural flow of the body, and our mental health sometimes suffers. However, you don’t necessarily have to let yourself slide into the dumps. Instead, you can take control of your personal happiness, and do something good for yourself.

This post is all about keeping your mind healthy, and stimulating yourself. If you’re feeling low, pick one of these activities or ideas, and it might just help burst the bubble. Looking after your mental health is just as important as your physical health, so don’t ignore those feelings!

Eat a good meal

The food you eat isn’t just essential for your physical health. It also has a huge impact on your mental health. Eating a healthy meal instantly gives you an energy boost, and helps you feel good. A regular healthy diet keeps your energy levels at a constant. However, when you eat lots of sugars and caffeine, you brain experiences highs and lows. The highs are often great, but the lows can be especially difficult. Try to stick to a healthy, nutritious diet, and you’ll feel a constant mellow high.

Exercise

When you’re feeling down, exercising is often the last thing on your mind. However, it might just give you the kick you need to improve your mood. Exercising gives your brain a dose of endorphins and feel-good chemicals. It helps us pound out our stress, and gives us a sense of achievement. Next time you’re feeling low, pull on your sneakers, and head out for a run. Alternatively, hit the gym or try something for adventurous like rock climbing. You’ll release your built-up energy, and leave feeling revitalized.

Call your friends

When we’re feeling low, we often tend to internalize our feelings. That only leads to darker thoughts, and more feelings of sadness. Try not to keep things bottled up inside. Instead, give your best friend a call. Even if you’re not the type to pour your heart out, just use the call as a distraction. Focus on the good things in your relationship. Plus, socializing helps release those feel-good chemicals in our brain too that increases your level of happiness.

Find some happiness online

Sometimes, we just don’t want to deal with the human race, and that’s fine! You can find some quick happiness online if you know where to look. Hunt out some pictures of cute animals on Instagram (this really does work!) Or, browse a fun, inspirational website like Chartcons. Anything that distracts you, and gives you a little boost of inspiration will help conquer those low feelings.

Write

For many people, writing is an incredibly cathartic activity. It helps put your thoughts into perspective, and priorities your worries. Get all your thoughts out onto paper, and you start to realize how small they really are. Don’t let things build up in your head. Instead, use a journal to write them down, and clear your head. You’ll be amazed at how much better you feel.

Pray To God

There good reason we saved this one for last, because your relationship with God is the one thing that can ensure your happiness no matter how difficult the storms of life may get. God became a man, Jesus Christ, who died for our sins and He rose again on the third day into Heaven, giving us the secure promise of Eternal Life and peace by faith in Him. The Good News is God is always with us! He sends His Holy Spirit to dwell in us, so we always have a Spiritual Guide and Comforter by our side. Get baptized and born-again as soon as possible so you can establish your relationship with God, and walk in the perfect peace that only our Heavenly Father, the LORD Jesus Christ offers. He will never leave you or forsake you. Pray to Him.
