Beverly Hills Magazine: Hi Kathy, Bienvenidos!
Kathy Colon: Thank you so much. Muchas gracias.
Beverly Hills Magazine: Let’s dive right in. I’m so excited about what you’re doing. You’re innovating female entrepreneurship on a global scale, which is amazing. Tell us about your entrepreneurial journey and what inspired your transition from big technology into real estate entrepreneurship.
Kathy Colon: Through a series of different events, I was working at Microsoft, and with the pandemic and everything else, life kept pivoting and I was laid off. During that time, I was taking care of a loved one. While doing that, I purchased a property in the Dominican Republic and was able to use it exactly how I intended. I put it out there for rentals, and then my community started asking me questions like, “I love what you’re doing. Can you help design my house? Can you help with Feng Shui? Can you help me sell it or rent it?” That’s how it all started. Organically, it grew into something much bigger. Today, I’m not just doing property management—it’s a combination of curating residences as well as hospitality. I also work within the hotel industry.
Beverly Hills Magazine: That’s amazing. It sounds much more fun than the corporate world.
Kathy Colon: I would definitely say so.
Beverly Hills Magazine: How did your experience at Microsoft and other major corporations shape your leadership style in your own venture?
Kathy Colon: My corporate background gave me formal training in sales, marketing, product development, pitching to clients, and really how to deliver a unique, cohesive, tailored experience. It taught me precision and how to create high-level service.
Beverly Hills Magazine: I love how you made that shift during the pandemic. I feel like it was almost like God sent everyone to their rooms for a timeout and said, “Reconsider your life and start doing what you’re passionate about.”
Kathy Colon: Absolutely. Everyone went into their own space and had to figure out their next step. I always wanted to go down an entrepreneurial path, but I did not know which one. I researched endlessly, and this opportunity just kind of fell into my lap. What I thought I was going to do was not what I ended up doing.
Beverly Hills Magazine: I’m a Christian, so I live by the Word of God. And the Bible says, “God laughs at man’s plans.”
Kathy Colon: Exactly. I always say we plan and God redirects us. Sometimes what feels like disappointment is really putting us exactly where we should be.
Beverly Hills Magazine: Exactly. That’s why I don’t believe in failure, I think things don’t workout because they are just stepping stones to the next opportunity God has for us. What is the vision behind Nova Lux Dominican Republic Properties?
Kathy Colon: Nova Lux is really a wellness company. It is about synergy and understanding the person—who they are, where they want to be, and what their long-term goals are. I created the slogan “Own Your Future” because I want people to be intentional about where they live and how they invest. This is one of the largest purchases someone will make in their life, so it should align with who they are. We curate holistic properties that have nature, light, and access to water. I specifically cherry-pick communities and residences that align with wellness. I also work with land investors, second-home buyers, vacation homeowners, and retirees. My team creates a personalized concierge-style experience so every client feels fully supported.
Beverly Hills Magazine: So it’s really more of an investment firm than a brokerage.
Kathy Colon: Exactly. I look at it far beyond a brokerage.
Beverly Hills Magazine: Are you focused primarily on residential properties?
Kathy Colon is Queen of DR. Ready to buy?
Kathy Colon: My main focus is the Dominican Republic, and most of my clients are from the United States, Europe, and Latin America. The second side of my business is hospitality on a global scale. That includes Europe and the United States. It started with advising hospitality groups on wellness and how to transition hotels into a more wellness-centered direction.
Beverly Hills Magazine: Why are high-performing leaders seeking wellness-centered investments now more than ever?
Kathy Colon: A lot of people are burnt out. Executives are constantly moving at high speed. Wellness-centered living offers biophilic design, nature, water, and environments that lower stress and help people reconnect with themselves. Wellness is no longer a luxury trend—it is becoming a necessity, and it is growing into a multi-billion-dollar market.
Beverly Hills Magazine: Mental health has become such a priority, and your environment really impacts that.
Kathy Colon: Absolutely. Your environment is everything. It affects your clarity, your peace, your rest, and your longevity.
Beverly Hills Magazine: Are you seeing trends among North American investors in the Dominican Republic market?
Kathy Colon: Yes. Tourism is growing exponentially there, and every quarter records are being broken. Some North American investors already know how strong the Dominican Republic market is and move very quickly. Others need more education and reassurance. Once they visit, they usually fall in love with it.
Beverly Hills Magazine: What are the biggest misconceptions people have about investing internationally?
Kathy Colon: People ask if they will be safe, if the property will truly be luxurious, and if the quality will match what they expect in the United States. There is a misconception for people who have never been there. But the reality is, luxury brands, incredible developments, and beautiful communities are thriving there.
Beverly Hills Magazine: What is the entry point for someone looking to invest?
Kathy Colon: You can find something beautiful around $220,000 to $250,000 in a wellness development in Punta Cana. Many developments also come with fifteen years of tax exemptions. For someone from New York or California, that is incredibly attractive. Plus, if you rent it when you are not there, it can pay for itself.
Beverly Hills Magazine: Tell us about your Fly and Buy concierge experience.
Kathy Colon: For people who are unsure, Fly and Buy allows them to come to the Dominican Republic for three days. I personally tailor the experience based on what they want to see. We visit selected projects, explore the culture, and create a fun but strategic experience. If they end up purchasing, they get reimbursed for their flight and hotel stay.
Beverly Hills Magazine: That’s incredible. Why is white-glove service so important in luxury real estate?
Kathy Colon: Because people are looking for an experience. Anyone can call an agent, but not everyone delivers excellence. I operate with very high standards. My corporate background taught me precision, responsiveness, and elevated service. People want to trust the person guiding them through such a major investment.
Beverly Hills Magazine: How do you define conscious leadership?
Kathy Colon: Through your moral compass. The culture you build matters. Your behavior, your standards, your presence—they are contagious. You are the role model. For me, my brand is everything because I truly care about every detail attached to my name.
Beverly Hills Magazine: What advice would you give someone considering a major career pivot?
Kathy Colon: It is very daunting, and you have to push through the fear. You must believe in yourself because you are your biggest champion. Keep pushing. Every day you are making progress, even if you cannot see it yet.
Beverly Hills Magazine: How has God played a role in your life?
Kathy Colon: God is everything to me. I would not be here without Him. Glory to Him for everything—the good, the bad, and the ugly. Without Him, I am nothing. Everything I do is for Him.
Beverly Hills Magazine: Amen to that. That is my heart too.
Beverly Hills Magazine: What excites you most about the future of wellness in real estate?
Kathy Colon: The hotels and developments we walk into today will not be the same in five or ten years. Everything is shifting toward mixed-use, experiential, and wellness-driven investments. Lifestyle-driven developments are the future.
Beverly Hills Magazine: Kathy, your vision is inspiring because it proves that business, wellness, and purpose can all work together beautifully. You are helping people not only invest financially, but also invest in their peace, health, and future legacy. Thank you for sharing your wisdom and your heart with us today.
Kathy Colon: Thank you so much. It was truly a pleasure. My mission is to help people create lives and investments that feel aligned with who they are and where they want to go. Success is not only about wealth—it is about wellness, peace, and legacy. I am grateful to share that journey with Beverly Hills Magazine.
