Connery. Sean Connery.

Sean Connery is synonymous with James Bond. In the role he himself made iconic, the star perfectly embodied the smart, handsome, refined, and debonair spy. However, though instantly recognized for 007,  Sean Connery went far beyond Bond.  Aside from winning an Academy Award for The Untouchables, he also earned three Golden Globes and Kennedy Center Honors for an acting career that spanned over 50 years.

At the time of his move to Nice, Sean Connery had achieved significant Hollywood success. In fact, the star even turned down roles that would have paid up to $450 million for just one film. Yet, in 1971, he insisted retirement suited him and he was done with acting, going so far as to suggest he would never return to the screen. However, when asked in 1983 to star in yet another James Bond film based on Ian Flemming’s novel Thunderball, he could not resist! Inevitably, he agreed to do the movie. And it was his wife, Micheline Roquebrune who named the film Never Say Never Again, a nod to the actor’s claim that he would never return to the character.

Never Say Never Again was filmed in Nice and nearby Monaco. Adding a touch of reality to the film, the star’s own luxury home appeared in the movie.
