To cater for the increase in demand for luxury jets arriving in Ibiza, AENA – the Spanish aviation authority – has recently granted permission for the island’s airport to be expanded to 80,000m2. Currently, the airport can cater for 25 planes; the planned expansion will mean space for a total of 54. This comes after the recent expansion of the airport terminal building. In the peak season, Ibiza welcomes up to 120 planes per day to the airport in Eivissia. May saw passenger figures increase by 20.8%, which is a consistent growth rate on last year’s figures.
