We understand some people may be put off as they can look complex and time-consuming but this is a common misconception. We can’t promise you’ll be a master on your first try but by following our guide you’ll soon become an expert eyelash wearer. Below, Flawless Lashes by Loreta cover the basic fundamentals you need to follow for how to apply false eyelashes and the aftercare they require to make the most out of your new accessory.
What are strip lashes? These are the most common forms of false eyelashes, they can be found in most beauty stores. They are horizontal strips with tiny clusters of false eyelashes attached. You can buy subtle everyday ones or dramatic fans for parties, it may take a few attempts to find the perfect style for you as everyone is different and you can’t always tell what looks good until you have them on.
Many beauty experts argue as to what are the best false eyelashes, this can come down to many factors such as how you wear them, your experience and your budget. You can get some relatively cheap ones in drug stores but they are not always the most comfortable to wear and often don’t last longer than one occasion, even with proper maintenance. You don’t always have to splurge to get a good quality pair, there are some mid-range lashes available too that look great and don’t leave you crying until payday.
How to Apply Strip Lashes
Wondering how to apply false strip lashes? Firstly you need to know how to safely remove them from their packaging. Never use your fingers, as careful as you may be, strip lashes can bend very easily and this can make it incredibly hard to apply them straight and keep them on all day.
Using a clean pair of tweezers, carefully remove the lashes from the outer edges and lift up. Now using those same tweezers, hold the lash up to your own eyelid. No two eyes are the same shape and size so it is unlikely they’ll fit you straight out of the box so you need to know how to trim false eyelashes. Measure the strip lash against your own, the false eyelash should begin and end where your natural ones do.
Then, using a sharp pair of small scissors, trim any excess off from the outer edge. Always cut from the strip side up and not down towards the other lashes as you may risk accidentally cutting these off too.
Using the applicator of the eyelash glue, carefully sweep the horizontal strip with the adhesive. Now for the important bit, many novices don’t know when it comes to how to put false eyelashes on, wait 20-30 seconds before applying. This is because the glue needs to dry out and become tacky, otherwise they won’t sit in place on your eyelids. If you want a stronger hold, you can apply small dots of glue on your eyelid for extra security.
Press the lash along your lash line, starting in the centre and working your way outwards. You can apply mascara before or after you have applied your strip lashes but a light coating beforehand can help you get a grasp on your natural lashes, making it easier to apply.
Always leave your lashes to dry for a few minutes before applying any makeup or anything else that may cause them to fly off, like blow-drying your hair.
How to Remove False Eyelashes
Always remove your false eyelashes before going to sleep, if you don’t, you risk causing irritation to your skin and also upsetting your natural lashes which can lead to them falling out.
To remove them, use your tweezers to gently pull off from the outer edge and place them back in the box to keep them safe until you are ready to clean them for another use. Always remove them before taking off the rest of your makeup of having a shower.
Next, you need to know how to clean false eyelashes. This is important as only getting one use out of your eyelashes is both wasteful and costly. But how long do false eyelashes last? This comes down to the quality and how well you care for them. Let’s look into how to clean strip lashes.
You will need your trusty tweezers, makeup remover and cotton balls. Soak the cotton ball in your chosen makeup remover, those made specifically for eye makeup work best as they are designed to remove even waterproof mascara but are also more gentle. Wipe your cotton ball along the lashes in an upward motion, make sure you do both sides until all makeup is removed.
Use your tweezers to pull any leftover glue off and wipe again with another ball of soaked cotton wool. Then use an eyelash comb or a clean mascara wand to gently tease the lashes back to their original shape. Lay on paper towels until dry. Cleaning is not just important for the lash themselves but also the health of your own eyes as you never know what bacteria they could have picked up during wear.
You should now have an idea on how to put on false eyelash and how to care for them. If you still think this is a daunting task, ask a friend to help you, sometimes you just need a second opinion to reassure you they are on straight and not looking like a Tim Burton character! We promise you won’t regret giving false eyelashes a try and they instantly make you feel beautiful!
