A vacation in the Gold Coast offers plenty of things to do. You might feel overwhelmed trying to narrow down your list of vacation activities to do during your time in the city (and if you’re planning to visit other parts of the country). So, here are the top three things you should do during your stay on the Gold Coast.

Go Deep Sea Fishing

With over 70 kilometers of coastline, the Gold Coast is one of the best cities for beach activities. Choose from the many beaches the city has to offer to soak in the sun. But if you’re looking for a different kind of beach experience, the Gold Coast’s fishing charters provide an exciting adventure known as deep-sea fishing.

For those who don’t know what deep-sea fishing is, it’s a half-day or whole-day trip out into deep and open waters. Aside from the fact that you’ll get the chance to see large sea creatures, like sharks and dolphins, you’ll also get the opportunity to learn from experienced anglers. You’ll learn how to catch large fishes like tuna, mahi-mahi, or even our most popular recreational fishing species, the tailor fish.

Plenty of deep-sea fishing charters in the Gold Coast offer half-day trips in the morning or afternoon or whole-day trips for large groups. Each tour provides the boat and fishing equipment you need for a great experience out in the open water. Even if you don’t have experience fishing, this activity might pique your interest.

Climb the Highest Point of the Gold Coast

What’s the best way to view all of the Gold Coast? From the tallest point of the city, of course. The Q1 Resort Tower is the tallest point in the heart of the city, providing spectacular 360-degree views. While getting to the SkyPoint Observation Deck at the 77th floor is a breeze, getting to the actual top of the building is the real challenge.

From the 77th floor, you’ll have to put on a bodysuit and safety harness before getting some safety training from the tour guide. You’ll then be harnessed to a safety rail system before you’re finally allowed to climb the steps to the top of the tower and enjoy the breathtaking view. It’s not ideal for those with a fear of heights, but the promise of a great view of the city may change your mind.

Visit the Hinterlands

The Gold Coast has more to offer than just the beach and the city. The rainforest hinterland is an hour’s drive away from the bustling city features thriving rainforest, breathtaking waterfalls, and walking trails that showcase the best of Queensland’s nature.

The hinterlands are home to national parks, rainforest retreats, and even natural swimming holes if you prefer to swim in the serene forests rather than the beach. Make it a must-visit on your Gold Coast vacation if you want to experience the city’s slow and zen side rather than just focusing on what the urban jungle has to offer.

There are many more activities you can do and places to visit on the Gold Coast. If you have the time to visit other areas within the city and other destinations in Australia, you should. But these three are definitely a must in your next vacation.
