Cosmetic surgery procedures in the U.S. increased by 13% in 2019 compared to 2018, reveals the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (AAFPRS), the world’s largest speciality association for facial plastic surgeons. 84% of AAFPRS members also agree that celebrities are predominantly behind this surge in demand, with L.A. locals Kylie Jenner and Kim Kardashian being the main influencers of women. When it comes to cosmetic surgery, celebrities have always played a major role in setting the newest trends. Lip injections

Lip injections are a major trend amongst celebrities, and Injectable Effects explain that dermal filler injections are a popular way of plumping and enhancing the lips. Britney Spears has revealed she gets lip injections, as well as a number of other treatments, from Beverly Hills surgeon, Dr. Raj Kanodia.  Notably, celebrities are no longer opting for such over-the-top big lips.

Breast augmentation

Boob jobs have always been a standard cosmetic treatment, but now celebs are no longer opting for larger sizes. “Before the economic downturn of 2007 and ’08, women wanted full D cups,” explains Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Gabriel Chiu, who specializes in breast lifts and augmentation. “They’d go up three sizes — now they’re going up one to two, max. Tacky is no longer aspirational.” As well as going smaller, patients are also commonly requesting removal of old larger breast implants. Patients want volume at the top of the breast and tend to skip going to a bigger cup size.

Body contouring

There’s a wide range of body contouring treatments available that are a hit with the stars. In particular, back contouring is a popular treatment before award season begins. Dr. Simon Ourian reveals that celebrities are increasingly requesting CoolBeam treatments to remove unsightly blemishes like acne scars, sun damage and discoloration so that they can look good in open-back dresses. At Dr Ourian’s Beverly Hills practice, a celebrity used the treatment to eliminate stretch marks, in addition to getting the skin around her belly button tightened. The treatment is potentially safer for darker skin tones, which were previously unable to handle other laser treatments.

Cosmetic beauty trends amongst celebrities are always changing, with the natural look now increasingly popular. Regardless of the latest celebrity trends, however, it’s important that patients make sure to always consult a board-certified plastic surgeon before making the decision to go ahead with a particular procedure.
