So, like virtually everyone else, you are in self-isolation and you are feeling pretty bored and irritated by the thought of spending the majority of your time indoors for the foreseeable future.

Sure, frustration is an understandable reaction. But, there are actually various ways that you can use your time stuck at home to improve your life and move things in a more positive direction for yourself. (Image Credit: Janeb13/Pixabay)

How about, for example, undertaking a journey of self-reinvention while you are stuck at home, so that when the world gets back to normal, you can emerge like a butterfly out of the cocoon?

Here are a few tips for reinventing yourself during self-isolation.

  • Plan for (and practice) a significant image makeover

Maybe you’ve been a bit bored with your style for a while now, or maybe you’ve just had a feeling somewhere in the back of your mind that it would be pretty cool to change things up and explore a different “look,” but haven’t really had the inspiration to take action.

Well, why not use some of your time right now to plan for (and practice) a significant image makeover, so that all your friends are stunned by the new you that they see when you next meet up in public?

There are all sorts of online catalogues you can research, and you can have plenty of goods delivered to your home that can make a significant difference.

You could, for example, try out self-install veneers, or you could try out a variety of different dresses that you haven’t had the confidence to go for before. The great thing is that no one has to see you until you are satisfied with your new look.

  • Take the time to really think about where you are heading in life, and where you want to be heading

When we were kids, we all typically had various plans and ambitions for how we wanted our lives to go, and the kinds of things we wanted to do. But then we got into various routines, started our professional lives, and things just kind of “happened.”

In order to reinvent yourself, you’ve got to not allow yourself to be a passive observer in your own life. You need to seize control of the direction you are actually heading in, rather than just hanging around and seeing where things go.

So, this is a great time to really think about where you are heading in life, and where you want to be heading. Spend some time in regular quiet contemplation with a paper and pen, jot down your goals, and visualize where you want to be.

  • Make a list of hobbies and activities that you’re going to throw yourself into when you get the chance

We all know, on some level, that we tend to take things for granted up until the moment when we no longer have them.

For many of us, this period of self-isolation is likely acting as a good reminder that there are all sorts of cool and great things out there to do in the world, and that it’s a good idea to not take them for granted, because you never know when you’ll no longer be able to enjoy them.

As part of your self-reinvention journey, make a list of hobbies and activities that you’re going to throw yourself into when you get the chance. Specifically, things that you no longer want to ignore or take for granted.

Maybe you’ll finally sign up for those dance classes, or join that martial arts club, when things are back to normal. Or, maybe, you’ll want to switch careers to a job that’s more people-focused.
