Mel Gibson’s Malibu Mansion
There is no doubt multi-talented, Academy Award-winning Mel Gibson is a Hollywood powerhouse. But many might not know the celebrity has also built a powerful real estate portfolio. In fact, his real estate investments have a $425 million net worth! (Image credit: The Agency)
That is quite a far cry from when he moved with his middle class parents from New York to Australia at age 12. Following their relocation, Mel Gibson studied acting at Australia’s National Institute of Dramatic Arts. And at the age of 23, he became a major movie star with his lead role in the Australian-film Mad Max (1979). Notably, he earned only $15,000 for the role!
Real Estate Interest
Since his humble beginnings, he has proven himself in the entertainment industry as evidenced by his many awards. And has funneled the income earned from that stardom into property investments with holdings in Australia, Costa Rica, the United States and Fiji. In addition, he quietly makes philanthropic donations within the countries he has invested.
Mel Gibson’s real estate choices consistently reflect his penchant for the rustic/romantic style. This Malibu mansion is the perfect example. Purchased in 2008, the star highlighted the property’s Old World charm while adding his own personal stamp. And this stunning piece of celebrity real estate is now on the market, priced at $14.495 million.
A Picturesque Malibu Mansion
This luxury estate is one of the most beautiful in central Malibu. A long gated drive provides access to the 6,578 square foot house. Visitors are welcomed by the grand two-story foyer that opens into an expansive great room, complete with high vaulted-beamed ceilings and stone arched doorways. Large chandeliers, dark wood floors, and a grand stone Inglenook-style fireplace complete the space. And walls of transomed French doors display exquisite canyon and ocean views.
The large French country kitchen is a showstopper with bespoke cabinetry, marble countertops, a central island and an area for casual dining. And the light and airy five bedrooms with five baths provide ample living space. A family room, den and gym round out the home. In addition, the three-car garage features a two bedroom guest house above.
Lush landscapes of native Southern California plants wend their way through the 5.5 acre parcel. And terraces with ocean views abound, one featuring a vine-covered pergola, perfect for al fresco dining. Bask by one of the two swimming pools. Or enjoy the amenities with the included membership in the La Costa Beach Club.
One of Mel Gibson’s collection of properties in his rustic elegant style is for sale in Malibu, priced at $14.495 million. Listing agents are Sandro Dazzan of The Agency, Beverly Hills and Branden Williams with Hilton & Hyland, Beverly Hills.
