Statement stripes were a big presence on the fashion runway with designers like Tommy Hilfiger and Altuzarra experimenting with the last season trend. This year, instead of the classic Breton stripe, Vertical stripes were the print present on skirts, dresses, blouses and coats. Another print which we always see on the runway is Polka Dots. Thakoon layered them into his designs while they were the central element in Marc Jacobs show. Switching up the skinny jeans with Bell Bottoms, Coach and Theory showed us just how you can pair them with chic blazers and collared shirts for a casual day!
Versace had some of the most beautiful, unique and classy designs we’ve seen in years. Watch the show now:
Wes Gordon, Carolina Herrera, Christian Dior and Prada all surprised their audiences by bringing back the high neckline dresses from the 90s. Sheer dresses have been all the rage the past season, so it was refreshing to see the buttoned-up and high collared looks on the runway. They look perfect for outings on hot spring days! We’ve already seen Kim Kardashian’s obsession with mesh dresses so it was no surprise that they were a hit in the fashion world. Balenciaga, Balmain and Fendi all had designs with neck-to-ankle black mesh, mixing sultry with sporty. White lace was also a prominent presence on the runway. Chloé, Givenchy and Chanel bought in the romantic element with semi sheer Lacy White dresses.

Of course, unique dresses were all the rage. Alexander Mcqueen had some designs that shocked the runway. These dresses had the models in a head mask so the model couldn’t look in either direction. The designs were black and white with some beaded areas. Valentino created some dresses that had the 60’s coming back in style. With sunflowers and bold designs on thin dresses, the earthy tones of these brought back singing in the field. Among the collage of styles, there were a few surprises as well.
For shoes, knee high ones that lace up the legs were trending. Hugo Boss’s collection featured flats as compared to Rodarte’s high heeled boots. Thanks to Pharell Williams’ signature hat style, headgear on the runway included larger than life hats. Donna Karan, Tibi and Thom Browne were fans of the large hat trend.

Among all the dresses, hair was one of the main points of focus. The hair, that can be thrown around and changed into some ridiculous styles were displaying a somewhat natural feel. They left the hair alone, for the most part, and the dresses shined with an added bring me back to the 60’s style. The natural afro was on display in a big way by models like Lineisy Montero, Nykhor Paul, Ajak Deng, Grace Bol, and Mari Agory who all brought some time travel to the show. This brought up some controversy as there are some associated racial actions and ideas tied to these styles and they were addressed.
Hair Stylist and Color Expert, Summer Sararo in Beverly Hills states, “The biggest trend on the runway this year is hair accessories. Whether it’s jewels or ribbons, any kind of hair adornment is now becoming the must have style accessory.”
