The glitz and glamour of show business and farming seem like diametrically opposed opposites, but sometimes this isn’t the case. It’s true that the glamour of an A-List Hollywood career has little to do with growing food, farming dairy, or harvesting meat, and it might be difficult to imagine a celebrity from Tinseltown cleaning stables or using a cream separator for dairy but you’d be mistaken to think the person who does one of these fields can’t do well in the other.

Sometimes farming can be an immensely satisfying pursuit for the celebrity that has everything, and with the need for more sustainable farming options, it’s little surprise that the affluent are turning their hand to a farming lifestyle.

What might surprise you is this list of celebrities who are confirmed to have been maintaining, or have maintained a farm at some point in their lives.

  1. Russell Crowe

Gladiator, LA Cop, brilliant schizophrenic mathematician, Russell Crowe has played them all. Russell purchased his first lot of land in Australia back in 2003 and paid a handsome $750,000 for it. This gave him a passion for farming, so he’s been expanding his lot ever since. It now boasts a full ranch that spans a whopping 500-acres.

He houses a variety of animals there, from sheep to cows and pigs. It has a large amount of agricultural equipment he’s joked about being a pain to maintain. Still, it’s less of a chore for him because he has a team of people dedicated to upkeep. They do everything from machine maintenance, keeping his fencing structurally sound and harvesting the fruits of his crops.

  1. Zach Galifianakis

Funnyman Zach Galifianakis has a 60+ acre property in Carolina he has dubbed ‘Farmageddon,’ where he keeps goats and more. He has stated publicly that this is a very conscious choice to remain free from the corrosive stress of the A-lister lifestyle. Zach also hosts many parties at his farm but finds it a great place to relax.

  1. Nicole Kidman

Nicole Kidman and her husband Keith Urban both own a 36-acre farm near Nashville Tennessee that houses cattle and alpacas. Urban is a country singer and is well versed with the agricultural lifestyle.  Nicole has similar reasons to Zach Galifianakis for escaping to the countryside. She has stated she feels much safer there compared to the larger cities.

  1. Hayden Christensen

It can’t be easy portraying Anakin Skywalker, something about the mindset of Darth Vader must have made Christensen want to escape to his farm in Toronto, and we can’t blame him. There he boasts a massive 200-acre property where he enjoys using heavy operational agricultural machinery. He enjoys using construction and excavation equipment, as well as simple things like riding on tractors. Christensen has also developed a love for machine maintenance, and does everything from installing NSK bearings, replacing crankshafts and lubricating vintage tractors.

Even though these A-liste Hollywood celebrities are able to provide a massive upfront investment in their farming adventures, getting out in nature needn’t be so expensive. The benefits can be vast, and if the people who have everything choose to do it, that should say something!
