Types Of Addictions

Before we get to it, let’s first familiarize ourselves with the types of addictions most people struggle with. In most cases, we may get confused about what addiction really means. It may not necessarily mean that a person has the compulsive need for a particular substance. With heroin addiction being one of the most common types of drug addiction in the U.S, there are various other types of addictions that people suffer from. Actually, we may all be experiencing some sort of addiction. Here are the most common addictions;

  • Alcohol addiction
  • Drug addiction
  • Gaming addiction
  • Prescription drug addiction
  • Sex addiction
  • Food addiction

Let’s now get back to the main topic. Here are the four celebrities who’ve battled with addictions and came out of it.

1. Robert Downey Jr.

Well known for his charisma and prowess in the film industry, Robert Downey Jr. starred in Iron Man as tony stark as well as in the 2008’s Incredible Hulk. He’s had some good times in the limelight but not so many people know of his struggles with substance abuse. This happened after he failed in his first trial to fame. It caused him frustrations that led to wild living. Nevertheless, he bravely battled drug addiction with the help of his friends and family.

2. Adele

Very early in her music career, Adele had what most people term as low self-esteem. Before performing, she could worry about how she looked while on stage. This caused her to start drinking before she performed to gain courage. The habit developed and turned to be problematic for her. The effects of alcohol started to affect her voice until it reached a point where she decided to kick the habit out of her life. This was back in 2009 and the singer is now living a healthier lifestyle after undergoing ligament surgery to fix her damaged vocal cords.

3. Daniel Radcliffe

After he starred in the famous Harry Potter films, Daniel Radcliffe could no longer lead a normal life as a result of the fame it brought him. He started to spiral down into depression and started drinking alcohol. Actually, he even started to appear in the last chapter of the saga drunk. It was through nature and exercises that the actor found it necessary to quit. He is now happier, healthier, and enjoying life as a result of overcoming his alcohol addiction.

4. Britney Spears

She started really young singing in the choir and then appeared on TV because of her talent. The early rise to stardom may have contributed to her drug abuse habit, family scandals, and alcohol abuse. Recording three successful albums within a period of three years wasn’t easy for Britney Spears. She had to keep a very tight schedule as well as work so hard towards achieving her dreams. This may have also, in some way, contributed to her addictions. It was through her father that the singer beat her addictions and successfully returned to her singing career.

As you can see, there are so many people, including celebrities, who’ve battled addictions and came out victorious. However, it takes the efforts of an individual as well as the involvement of those who are closely related to fight it.  You may also want to be involved with a support group or opt for professional help. Better yet, seek God and with His help you will be victorious too!
